This past weekend at Ironman Waco 70.3, I crossed the finish line as the overall winner — a moment that still feels surreal. It was one of those rare days when everything just clicked: the lessons from past races, trust in my training, and most importantly, a clear head.

A Surreal Finish and a Shift in Focus

I wasn’t the fittest going into the race — I can guarantee that. But I was probably in the top three for happiest and most calm athletes on the start line. And that made all the difference.

Over time, I’ve realized there are seasons for everything — seasons to push hard and seasons to simply live life. The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that taking things too seriously is often what leads to burnout.

“Go Have Fun!” — A Moment That Changed Everything

During the race, as I came off the bike, Natasha shouted, “Go have fun!” That moment stuck with me. Because that’s what this sport is about — having fun.

When you enjoy the process, it changes how you race, how you recover, and how you show up every day.

Joy and Balance Over Perfection

Train with friends. Laugh on the easy rides. Don’t stress if you miss a session — no one’s getting paid to do this. The real progress comes not just from the hours of training, but from showing up with joy, gratitude, and balance.

Of course, there’s still a time to knuckle down and get it done — to chase goals and stay disciplined. But the balance between focus and fun is what keeps you in love with the sport.

Racing with Perspective

Winning Waco wasn’t just about fitness or execution. It was about perspective — knowing when to push, when to rest, and when to simply appreciate the journey.

As I take the next steps toward becoming a professional athlete, that’s the mindset I want to carry forward: enjoy the process, respect the grind, and never forget why you started.
